Recently the MIS Club was notified that it had successfully secured videoconferencing capability for the College of Business Administration. The grant for the equipment was from Kan-Ed, the state’s high bandwidth telecommunication network. As well as writing the grant the MIS Club will be responsible for the grant’s match. Consulting and software development activities around the country continue to provide funds for these activities.
It turns out the timing for securing the new Polycom videoconferencing equipment couldn’t have been any better. Dr. Roger McHaney has been in discussions with Cerner to join Cerner’s partner universities starting in Fall 2006. As a result, MIS students in the capstone systems development course MANGT 686 will participate with students from other universities in a distance education program and competition. Students will learn from Cerner professionals, KSU faculty will join other university faculty delivering portions of the class and KSU students will work together to design and develop a product that will be presented to Cerner executives. While the course will visit the Cerner campus on a couple of occasions, the majority of the course will be taught using the new videoconferencing equipment.
In addition to the Cerner opportunity, the College is also anticipating growth around the state in the accounting program, expanded research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines as well as research related to health information technology changes and opportunities to enhance advising activities with prospective students. Other faculty are expected to expand research and educational opportunities in Kansas as a result of their international activities.
