This week`s member update comes from Kyle Hartman, previous Director of Information on the MIS club Board of Directors.
For this summer, I am working for ConocoPhillips in Bartlesville, OK as a Global Information Services Intern. ConocoPhillips is the third largest integrated energy company in the US and the fifth largest refiner in the world. They operate in more than 40 different countries around the world. For my internship, I am working in their Project Services branch of the GIS department. The project I am involved with is to upgrade existing web-based software and implement a records management module. This is a critical project because ConocoPhillips must be in compliance with certain company and government policies concerning records management. My main area of focus for this project will be to help plan, develop, execute and analyze an exhaustive FIT or Functional Integration Test for this upgrade. In this test, we must develop tests that we can run for every possible scenario that an end user might come across. ConocoPhillips takes their internships process very seriously and make sure that they give the interns real work on real projects. In addition, ConocoPhillips has given me a mentor that works in the GIS department, but is in a different branch of the GIS department. This is very helpful because it allows me to meet with my mentor and learn more about a different area within the company. Also, my mentor is there to help answer any questions I might have about anything. I am very excited about learning more about ConocoPhillips and gaining real world experience in project services. | | back | |
