This week’s member update comes from senior Kristin Wagner, MIS Club member.
This summer I am working a full-time internship at Cargill Meat Solutions in Wichita, KS. Cargill Meat Solutions is a unit of Cargill, Incorporated headquartered in Minneapolis, MN. Cargill is a world leader in the meat business. I am working in the Mergers and Acquisitions area of the IT department. Cargill is on pace to start acquiring companies at a rate of one per month. M&A is a new field at Cargill Meat Solutions and was just created this past February. Therefore, there is not a template process of how an acquisition is done. My job is to build this process through collaboration with the IT personnel who are involved with the acquisition of a company. Mainly I am interviewing other people to find out what information they need from us about the target company’s IT department. This helps to decide if Cargill will purchase the company or not. My other assignment is to become skilled at using the Groove software and to train my co-workers on how to use it. Overall, it is a very exciting position with lots of possibilities.
As for the rest of my summer, I have been traveling. I took a trip to Moab, Utah and will soon be going to Buena Vista, CO, as well as a trip to Chicago later. I have recently taken up golf lessons and am staying busy with a couple of online courses. Going home for family visits, and camping and hiking with my boyfriend is taking up the rest of my time. | | back | |
