Project Updates
The MIS Club was provided with an interesting challenge earlier this summer. The Club was asked to develop a web-based training environment for the state’s family therapists. Curriculum included in the web-based training was developed by K State faculty through the Kansas State University Family Center, Kansas’ Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services, and the Association of Community Health Centers. The Kansas State Communication Center was working with the group as part of a grant effort. To comply with grant requirements the web-based training environment had to be completed by May 31, 2006, less than five weeks from the time the MIS Club was first contacted.

Michael Barnes, Eric Shubkagel and Matthew Lehrman took on the task and not only delivered by the date requested but did so under budget and with enhanced capabilities. While the original design of the system called for the web-based deliverable to support a single training module, the product was developed to support any number of modules for a variety of family therapist user types. The Kansas State Communication Center is now working with the users to develop additional multi-media content as well as new training modules. The user community had anticipated a cost associated with each modules’ development, but now, because of the sophistication built into the original system, can use those funds to purchase higher quality content or future enhancements to the system.
